Narjis Mirza
New Media Installation Artist
Narjis Mirza is a media installation artist whose work delves into the poetic, philosophical, and spiritual dimensions of light. Her extensive portfolio includes large-scale light and sound installations that incorporate projection, animation, video, textile, and voice, creating immersive experiences that invite viewer participation. Originally trained as a painter, Narjis graduated with top honours from the National College of Arts in Pakistan and later earned a Master’s in Media and Design from Bilkent University in Ankara. Her artistic journey has seen her exhibit in Iran, Turkey, and Pakistan. In 2017, she was awarded the prestigious Vice Chancellor’s Doctoral Scholarship, leading to a practice-led PhD at Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand. Narjis contributed to the development of interactive participatory media art at the Interactive Media Lab, University of New South Wales.
Her research and creative practice have produced notable works such as “Hayakal al Noor, Bodies of Light,” inspired by Islamic philosophy, and her latest piece, “Rahma: Our Creative Feminine,” reflecting her profound engagement with multi-sensory experiences and cultural narratives.’
